第66课 Sweet as honey!

1、a long way west of Samoa

west 西部，或者朝着西方，与west 相关的一些词的用法容易混淆:

western (1) 在什么的西部，或者西方

例句：The sun began to turn crimson on the western horizon.

(2) 指与欧洲或者北美相连的事物

例句：the impact of western technology.

western-style housing

westerner 指出生在西方或者西部的人

例句：We found ourselves in a swirl of Westerner and Chinese.

westernize 动词，使西化

例句：Westernized tastes spread and traditions weaken.

2、...a Lancaster bomber in reasonable condition was rare and worth rescuing.

worth rescuing 值得抢救，有抢救价值，worth 后面跟动名词形式，表示值得怎么做。

例句：This film is really worth seeing.

3、A colony of bees had turned the engine into a hive...

colony 这里是量词，表示动物的量词还有：

a brood of chickens 一窝小鸡

a herd of cattle 一群牛

a cluster of ants 一群蚂蚁

a pack of hounds 一群猎狗

a flock of birds 一群飞鸟

a swarm of bees 一群蜜蜂

turn.....into..... 把......变成......

4、本课中出现了三次 have 作为使役动词的情况：have sth. done, 这种结构可能不知道或者不必知道为我们服务的是谁，但比被动语态更强调使别人为我们服务这一事实。

(1) The French authorities had the plane packaged and moved in parts back to France.

(2) Now a ground of enthusiasts are going to have the plane restored.

(3) ...but the ground will need to have only three of them rebuilt.
