第一组：both vs all

both和all都可以表达“都……”的意思，但both适用于两者的情况，all适用于三者及三者以上的情况。 The boss hopes that we can use both sides of the paper. 老板希望我们能用纸的两面。 （纸只有正反两面，所以用both） He studies very hard at school and gets good grades in all his subjects. 他在学校学习很努力，各科成绩都很好。 （学校的科目不止两个，属于三者及以上的情况，所以要用all）

第二组：neither vs none

neither和none都可以表达“都不……”的意思，但neither表示“两者都不”，而none表示“三者及三者以上都不”。 —What would you like, coffee or cola? 你喜欢什么，咖啡还是可乐？ —Neither. Milk is OK. 都不要，牛奶就可以。 （这里涉及coffee和cola两者，都不选就要用neither） Life is not easy but none of us give up! 生活不易，但是我们没有人放弃！ （这里没有明确的数量概念，只是泛指，不会只有两个人，所以用none）

第三组：each vs every

each和every都有“每个”的意思，each表示两个及两个以上当中“每一个”，而every表示三者及三者以上中的“每一个”。所以，如果只涉及两者，就要用each。比如：我们可以只能说each of my eyes，因为一个人只有两只眼睛；如果换成手指，就可以说each of my fingers，也可以说every one of my fingers。 二者还有另一个区别：each强调个体，也就是“每一个”，而every更倾向于泛指“任何一个，所有的”。 Each of them has his own robot. 他们每个人都有自己的机器人。 Every man must do his best. 人人都必须尽最大的努力。（这里的every man表泛指）

第四组：the other (one) vs another

the other (one)和another都可以表示“另一个”。the other (one)特指两个当中的另一个，总共两个，确定了一个，另一个自然也就确定了。所以the other (one)前面往往有one与之呼应。another表示三者或三者以上当中的另一个，总数是三个甚至更多，即便确定了一个，至少还剩下两个，依然是不确定的。 He placed the two plates, one with the potato and the other with the egg. 他把两个盘子放下，一个盛着土豆，另一个盛着鸡蛋。 She lives alone because her parents live in another city. 她独自生活，因为她的父母住在另一个城市。
